Private Practice Lactation Consultant IBCLC in Harare
Hallo, I’m Katinka, I accompany families in Harare on their breastfeeding journey from pregnancy to weaning.
Whether you want to get breastfeeding off to a good start, you want to make sure everything is going well, you have a concrete breastfeeding challenge or just find breastfeeding hard, I am here for you.
I have experience with breastfeeding preterm babies, babies with challenges to latch, painful breastfeeding, induced lactation for adoption/surrogacy, pumping and expressing, low milk supply and many more.
In a first consult we will spend 1.5 to 2 hours together. I will get to know you and your baby, we will talk about what you are struggling with and how breastfeeding has been going so far. I will observe a full breastfeed and make suggestions for help with positioning, latch and comfort. I will weigh your baby and check how much milk your baby drank. At the end of the consult we will develop a care plan that works for you.
In a follow-up consult we will spend 1 hour together. I will observe another full breastfeed. We will talk about the progress and make sure the problem could be resolved. If the problem is not resolved we will talk about what worked and did not work and come up with a follow-on care plan.
In an antenatal consult we will spend 1 hour together. We will talk about how to get breastfeeding off to a good start, the normal course of breastfeeding and common challenges. We will have the chance to talk about your questions and concerns and your past breastfeeding experience.
In-person consults include a home or hospital visit.
Breastfeeding consult – distance/phone
In a phone or video consult we will spend half an hour together. I will try to observe a breastfeed and talk you through any suggestions for help with positioning, latch and comfort. In a phone consult I am limited as I am not able to perform an examination of the breast and your baby’s oral anatomy and measure breastmilk transfer.
